Kicking off the year, the Good Morning Country team is in Tamworth for the 51st Tamworth Country Music Festival, broadcasting live from the festival every day from 5 am-9 am. The team is also broadcasting live from the Golden Guitar Awards, celebrating incredible country music artists from around Australia. The CBAA has also launched a new online learning course teaching you how to build your own radio website, propelling your station's digital presence into the future.  Stay tuned for an exciting 2023. Tamworth Country Music Festival  GMC Live Broadcast  For the first time since the COVID-19 Pandemic The Good Morning Country crew is heading to the 51st Anniversary of the Tamworth Country Music Festival! The team will be broadcasting Live from Tamworth throughout the week, from 13-22 January. Throughout the week the GMC team will be chatting with superstars of country music, live from the festival. Catch the broadcast live via the Community Radio Network.  Golden Guitar Awards  Live Broadcast On Saturday, 21 January from 19:00 AEDT, Good Morning Country will be broadcasting live from the red carpet at the annual Golden Guitar Awards from the Tamworth Entertainment Centre! The team will be backstage talking to artists and capturing all the magic as it unfolds live on Wednesday night. The Broadcast will run live on CRN satellite channel 630 from 19:00 AEDT to approximately 00:00 AEDT. Find out more. Yabun Festival  26 January 2023 The Yabun festival is a free event featuring live music, a stalls market, panel discussions, and community forums on Aboriginal issues, children’s activities, and traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural performances. This year's festival is presented by Koori Radio, with the station broadcasting the festival live. Join in the festivities and find out more. Resources and Opportunities CBAA eLearning course  Building your Radio Website  This new online learning course consists of 9 quick modules teaching you how to build a professional website for your community radio station. The course includes interactive modules, quizzes, and a community of peers for support. Once completing the course you'll receive a certificate of completion as well as being equipped with all the tools needed to create your station's digital presence. Find out more and enrol. Suicide Prevention Project  January 2023  This month, we learn about ReachOut Australia's PeerChat, providing young people with a safe, digital one-to-one peer support service. We hear about the support Headspace Work & Study provides for young people. Jackie Mead from SANE teaches us the importance of reducing mental health stigma, and Beyond Blue's Dr Grant Blashki explains the ways we can look after ourselves and seek support if we’ve been impacted by the recent floods. Access the content.  First Sounds Vol 9  Available on Amrap, Feb 1 Volume 9 of First Sounds will be available via the CBAA's Amrap on February 1, 2023. First Sounds Volume 9 features a collection of incredible First Nations artists from around the country. CD copies of First Sounds Volume 9 will be sent out to stations following the online release, to be played on air. For more information contact amrap@cbaa.org.au.  CBF Round 1 Grants Now open  The Community Broadcasting Foundation's first grant round for 2023/24 is now open. This round funding to support Content, Development & Operations, and Specialist Radio Programming. Eligibility criteria and entrant guidelines are available now, with the round closing on 7 March 2023. Find out more and submit your application.  What's Happening In Community Radio Wangki Radio provides emergency updates amidst flooding  As the rain poured down and rivers rose, Wangki Yupurnanupurru Radio was unable to broadcast on-air, however, the Wangki team turned to Facebook to share emergency information. The station provided audio updates in Kriol and other local languages to ensure their community has access to vital information.    Community Radio Plus -  now compatible with car audio devices  Community Radio Plus has changed the way audiences access community radio, and the latest update to the app has made it easier than ever. The CBAA is proud to announce Community Radio Plus is now compatible with Amazon Alexa, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Sonos devices. These recent updates make it easier than ever to listen to your favourite community radio content on your drive to work, or while you pile into the car with friends and family for a road trip this holiday season. Find out more.   Wangki Radio provides emergency updates amidst flooding Community Radio Plus now available Via Amazon Alexa, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Sonos. CBAA Online Community Hot Topics on CBAA’s Online Community: Is it up to Community Radio to Save Australian Music?  Off the back of a recent article published by Vice, CBAA online community members have been discussing the role community radio plays in the Australian music landscape.  All I am saying here is, how do we attend to this and work together?  But I also think that independent artists new to support their local station by being a member and become involved.  They can then experience first hand the work that goes on behind the scenes of operating a community station. I suppose as stations we have to work out who or what the biggest threat is.  Is it the multitude of web based platforms or commercial radio?    See the discussion here.
